Postcard 1900s With Warm Irish Wishes Dublin Ireland Irish Stew Novelty Embossed

Dublin, Ireland1906Pre-linenFair-Good

A rosy-cheeked Irish lad grins impishly from inside a great black cauldron labeled "IRISH STEW," flames licking the pot's base as he grips the handle with both hands — a jovial, slightly absurdist Edwardian humor card sent "With Warm Irish Wishes from Dublin" that perfectly captures the cheeky postcard humor of the early 1900s golden age. Below the illustration runs a printed couplet: 'Tis the broth of a boy I'm sending / In the broth of an Irish Stew / To convey all the hearty good wishes / That I send with these views to you. The card conceals a delightful hidden feature: within the body of the cauldron, a fold-out leporello insert accordion-pulls to reveal multiple black-and-white photographic views of Dublin city streets — including what appears to be O'Connell Bridge and the famous O'Connell Street with its double-decker trams — making this simultaneously a novelty humor card and a genuine topographical souvenir of Edwardian Dublin. The reverse is printed by Valentine's of Dundee, London, and Dublin, one of Britain's most prestigious postcard publishers of the period. Condition shows expected age-toning and a split at the leporello fold, but the insert remains substantially intact.
