Postcard 1921 Brno Railway Station Trams Autos Czech Metropoli RPPC Real Photo

Brno, Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia)1921Pre-linenGood

Bustling interwar energy leaps from this elevated real-photo view of Brno's grand Hauptbahnhof — a tram glides past a busy street kiosk labeled "Buffet," period automobiles crowd the forecourt, and factory smokestacks rise behind the ornate Neo-Baroque station facade with its prominent clock tower, all captured with the sharp tonal depth of a genuine silver gelatin photograph. Brno (then also known as Brünn, the Moravian capital of what had just become Czechoslovakia in 1918) was a thriving industrial and rail hub, and this card documents the city in its earliest republican years. Sent from Brno on 25 February 1921, it was addressed in German script to Familie Brauneis in Vienna — a social detail reflecting the still-intertwined German-speaking communities of Central Europe in the immediate post-WWI period. The sender, whose name appears to begin with a name ending in the address block, filled the message side densely with blue ink German cursive.
