Postcard 1900 Prague Gruss aus Prag Rudolf Anlagen Bridge Pre-Linen

Prague, Czech Republic (then Bohemia, Austria-Hungary)1900Pre-linenGood

A misty panorama of fin-de-siècle Prague unfolds in silver-grey halftone: the grand suspension bridge at the Rudolf Anlagen commands the foreground while the ancient Charles Bridge arches gracefully in the middle distance, church domes and Gothic spires piercing the haze beyond — a city caught at the precise cusp of the old world and the new. Dated 11 July 1900 in the sender's own hand, this greetings card ("Gruss aus Prag!") was dispatched just as Prague was entering its most architecturally ambitious decade under Austro-Hungarian rule. Publisher Carl Bellmann's crisp photolithograph captures the Kettensteg chain-suspension bridge that would be demolished only a few years later, making this a rare document of a vanished landmark. A sender identified only by first-name flourishes — the message closes with warmest greetings — sent this across the empire to an official at the k.k. (Imperial-Royal) offices, routed through Vienna.
