Postcard 1935 Balatonszárszó Strand Penzió Lake Balaton Hungary RPPC

Balatonszárszó, Hungary1935RPPCGood

Dappled summer light filters through chestnut leaves onto the cool white arches of the Strand Penzió (beach pension) at Balatonszárszó, a genteel resort village on the southern shore of Lake Balaton — Hungary's beloved "Hungarian Sea" — in this sepia real-photo card that breathes the unhurried leisure of interwar Central European holiday culture. Sent in the summer of 1935, a sender named "Kure" (likely a nickname) writes to dear friends Franz and Lia in Vienna with infectious enthusiasm: the weather is a glorious 26°C, the food is plentiful and wonderful, there is dancing and music every day, and — with a teasing note — Lia could rest and sleep well here, while Franz would have many girls to admire. Addressed to Franz Winninger at Mariahilferstrasse 37, Wien II, the card traveled on the Hungarian state postal network and carries the resort's own promotional slogan-cancel "Nyaraljon Balatonszárszón!" (Vacation at Balatonszárszó!).
