Postcard 1905 Brooklyn Bridge New York Harbor UNCO Photochrome Steamships

New York City, USA1906Pre-linenGood

Steam ferries and tugboats churn the East River beneath the soaring gothic towers of the Brooklyn Bridge in this vivid Photochrome card — the foreground roofscape of Lower Manhattan is plastered with painted-wall advertisements for Richmond Stove Co. and George Starrett Stoves & Heaters, a gritty commercial layer that has long since vanished beneath glass towers. The Brooklyn Bridge, opened in 1883, was still a visual marvel when this card circulated; the Manhattan Bridge would not open until 1909, leaving the Brooklyn Bridge the lone span in the frame. Published by the Union News Company using the G&S Photochrome process (card no. 1652), this unused divided-back card dates to c. 1905–1908 and retains excellent color saturation. The pencil notation "75" appears on the back, suggesting a dealer's price or lot number.
