Postcard 1959 Der Rhein Mainz Koblenz Germany Map Multi-View Deutsche Post

Rhine Valley, Germany (sent from Lübeck)1959ChromeGood

A sweeping pictorial map of the Rhine Valley between Mainz and Koblenz fills this striking black-and-white composite card — the mighty river's serpentine course anchoring a constellation of inset photographs: the Loreley rock, Marksburg castle above Braubach, the Niederwald monument, the Pfalzgrafenstein toll castle rising from mid-river at Kaub, the Dom zu Mainz, and the legendary Deutsches Eck confluence at Koblenz, each labeled in elegant German Gothic lettering, wine bottles and grape clusters decorating the cartouche in celebration of the Rheingau's liquid heritage. Postmarked Lübeck, 14 August 1959, and addressed to Wm. J. Ocenek at 880 NE 113th St, Biscayne Park, Miami, Florida — a Czech émigré community address — the card was written in Czech by a sender named "Dena," who describes the day's journey from Bingen to Koblenz, mentions staying overnight in Bingen, attending a new wine festival, notes it was "quite expensive but worth it," and asks the recipient to write back explaining how he spent his dollars.
