Postcard 1954 Starnberger See Germany Novelty Pull-Out Chrome Sent France

Starnberg, Bavaria, Germany1954ChromeGood

Two rosy-cheeked young cyclists — a boy in a jaunty white cap and a girl with a bright orange ribbon flying from her ponytail — pedal together through a pine-fringed Bavarian lane on this charming illustrated comic postcard, while the verse in the upper left reads: "Die Freude auf Pedalen, sie ist nicht auszumalen. Voran im glatten Lauf. Beste Grüße! Klappe auf!" — "The joy of pedaling is beyond all telling. Onward in the smooth ride. Best wishes! Open the flap!" And open the flap one should: tucked behind the cover is a pull-out leporello strip of black-and-white photographic views of the Starnberger See region, including the Dampfschiff at the Anlegebrücke (steam ferry at the landing pier), Sternberg Teilansicht (partial view of Starnberg town), Blick über den See (view across the lake), Seehotel Leoni, Bismarckturm, Votivkapelle König Ludwig II, and Leichte Brise (light breeze — a sailing scene). The card was posted from Starnberg on 7 November 1954, franked with two 10-Pfennig Heuss stamps of the West German Bundespost, and sent by Robert to the household of Paul at Domaine Pâtureaux, Montguyon, Charente-Maritime, France — a warm cross-border postwar friendship memorialized in a few lines: "With all good wishes from your friend, Robert."
