Postcard 1910s Egypt Moonlight Sphinx Camel Camp Desert Art Tuck Style

Germany (artist/subject: Egypt)1910Pre-linenGood

Under a vast star-scattered sky and a glowing full moon, a Sphinx gazes impassively toward the horizon while Bedouin travelers rest beside their kneeling camels at a fire-lit desert encampment — this is Orientalist fantasy rendered at its most atmospheric, a genre that captivated European and American postcard buyers in the early twentieth century. The richly chromolithographed night scene, signed "F. Perlberg" at lower right (the prolific German Orientalist artist Friedrich Perlberg, 1848–1921), belongs to Serie 792 No. 1, published with a red diamond logo consistent with several German fine-art postcard houses of the 1900s–1910s. The reverse carries substantial handwritten text in German Kurrent script in blue ink, densely filling the address panel — the card appears to have been used as a personal autograph or correspondence card within Germany, with no postage affixed. The inscription references what appears to be ship or club names.
