Postcard Malta Public Library Valletta Colorized Vintage Unused Early 20th C

Valletta, Malta1918Pre-linenFair-Good

Sun-bleached limestone glows warm gold in this early hand-colored view of Malta's Public Library — formally the Bibliotheca — framed by the grand arcaded facade of Republic Street, Valletta, with a white marble Queen Victoria statue standing sentinel in the foreground plaza and what appears to be a café kiosk with ornate canopy visible at the right edge, the whole scene evoking the colonial Mediterranean quietude of British-administered Malta between the wars. Built in 1786 under the Knights of St. John and redesigned in the neoclassical style, the Bibliotheca is one of the oldest public libraries in the world and a UNESCO-adjacent heritage site — lending this postcard both architectural and imperial history interest. The card is unused, with only a penciled "Nr. 14" in the stamp box on an otherwise blank back, suggesting it was part of a numbered collection or dealer stock. Format and coloring style suggest production circa 1910–1925.
