Postcard 1955 Distant View Giza Pyramids Egypt Lehnert Landrock Cairo

Giza, Egypt1955ChromeFair-Good

Tall date palms line a sandy path in the foreground as the Great Pyramids of Giza rise in timeless silhouette on the horizon — a composition that the celebrated Cairo photography house Lehnert & Landrock perfected across decades of Egyptian tourism imagery. This real-photo-style printed card, numbered No. 17 in the publisher's Egypt series, was posted from Cairo on 25 March 1955 bearing an Austrian Republic 1.50-schilling stamp, then traveled to Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), addressed to a woman named K. The handwritten message in German, signed by "Dr. Zwrgt" (24.III.1955), speaks warmly of an upcoming visit and refers to morning schedules — a slice of mid-century academic or professional travel life. The postmark reads OBERGRAFENDORF 25.III.55, and the address directs the card to Frau K. at Mönkersdorf, Post-Prinzersdorf, N.Ö. — a small rural community in Lower Austria, lending the card an evocative contrast between ancient Egyptian grandeur and quiet Austrian village life.
