Postcard 1960 Chateau Frontenac Hotel Quebec Canada CPR Linen Chrome

Quebec City, Quebec, Canada1960ChromeExcellent

Framed by the broad limbs of a grand old tree, the copper-roofed turrets and warm terracotta facades of the Château Frontenac Hotel soar above the rooftops of Old Quebec in this vivid mid-century color card — one of the most-photographed buildings in Canada and a defining symbol of Canadian Pacific Railway's grand hotel ambitions since 1893. This Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) official photograph, numbered "85 C.P.R. Photo," was published by the Photogelatine Engraving Co. Ltd. of Toronto (the PECO imprint with the maple leaf logo is visible on the reverse). The card was never mailed but carries a handwritten personal note on the back: "Saw this beautiful Hotel with Jim and Anna — June 1960," a brief, warm record of a summer visit that anchors this piece of graphic ephemera to a real moment in real lives. The image's brilliant turquoise sky and lush foliage mark it as a classic chrome-era production.
