Antique & Vintage Postcards

Reflected in the glassy stillness of the Inn River, Passau's iconic waterfront skyline glows with the warm tints of an early color lithograph — the tall Rathaus clock tower anchoring the left, while the twin baroque domes of St. Stephen's Cathedral loom against a pale sky to the right, the whole composition a reminder of why Passau earned the nickname "the Venice of Bavaria." This hand-colored card captures the Dreiflüssestadt (City of Three Rivers) at the height of the Wilhelmine era, before the river floods of the 20th century repeatedly tested these historic facades. The reverse carries a warm holiday message in old German cursive addressed to Joseph (a Taufpate — godfather) at Bernhardsberg near Rücklberg, Bavaria, signed affectionately by Hans. A single Bayern 5-Pfennig diamond-lozenge stamp (green, postmarked Passau) franks the domestic card.
