Antique & Vintage Postcards

Lynn's English High School rises in confident Art Deco neoclassicism against a powder-blue linen sky — its paired colonnades and symmetrical wings projecting the civic ambition of a Massachusetts industrial city at its mid-century peak. This Tichnor Bros. linen card, catalog number 61224, renders the building in the warm buff and sage palette that made "Tichnor Quality Views" the gold standard of New England linen production. English High School, Lynn — one of the oldest public high schools in the United States, tracing its roots to 1837 — occupied this grand building on Broad Street. The card was never posted, surviving in unused condition with a clean, bright face and the characteristic linen texture visible under raking light. Tichnor Bros., Inc. of Boston was the dominant regional linen publisher from the 1930s through the 1950s, and their Lynn views are keenly collected by Essex County postal history enthusiasts.
