Antique & Vintage Postcards

Stately and severe in monochromatic blue-green ink, the Lynn Public Library looms over an empty lawn in this early-century undivided-back card — its Corinthian columns and arched windows a deliberate echo of Roman civic grandeur transplanted to industrial Massachusetts. The building, designed in the Beaux-Arts style and opened in 1900, was funded in part by Andrew Carnegie-era civic philanthropy and remains a Lynn landmark. Published by the Eastern Post Card Co. with catalog number 3826, this card belongs to the earliest era of American postcard collecting — when the message could only go on the picture side and the back was reserved exclusively for the address. The stamp box specifies "Domestic One Cent / Foreign Two Cents," anchoring this card firmly in the 1901–1907 postal rate period. Unused and clean, it offers a crisp architectural record of Lynn at the turn of the twentieth century.
