Postcard 1909 Oregon Mt Hood Raphael Tuck Oilette Chromolithograph Used

Mt. Hood, Oregon, USA1909Pre-linenGood

Snow-crowned Mt. Hood glows with alpenglow over a glassy lake in this luminous chromolithograph — one of the Golden Age's most collectible publisher imprints — postmarked Portland, Oregon on September 20, 1909, and addressed to a Mrs. Eugene at Pope Mills, New York. The writer, signing with warmth, mentions traveling with brothers and being newly arrived in Portland, capturing the spirit of Edwardian-era transcontinental wandering. Raphael Tuck & Sons' "Oilette" series (No. 3006, Card No. 2695, titled "Oregon") was produced by royal appointment to the King and Queen, making these cards among the most sought-after by today's topographic and publisher collectors alike; the painted style by artist "O. Jette" (partially legible lower left) lends it additional art interest.
