Mailed on May 31, 1943 — deep in the Second World War — this card bears a 6-Pfennig Adolf Hitler definitive stamp of Deutsches Reich, cancelled at Philippsdorf (Kreis Rumburg), and was addressed to the family of Gustav in Arbesbach, Niederdonau (Lower Danube), in what is now Lower Austria. The reverse carries warm holiday greetings — "Herzliche Grüsse" — signed by what appear to be multiple pilgrims or companions including Marion, along with names partially legible, suggesting a group pilgrimage to the shrine even amid wartime. The Sudetengau designation on the printed card header marks the Nazi administrative reorganization of formerly Czech territory after the 1938 annexation.
