Postcard 1909 Thanksgiving Joy Turkeys Embossed Novelty "They're After Us!"

United States (rural, likely NC)1909Pre-linenGood

Two enormous, hyper-realistic turkey heads loom from a cornstalk thicket on this vivid embossed Thanksgiving greeting — their red wattles flush with alarm, their iridescent blue-black plumage rendered in rich lithographic color, and the caption "They're after us!" telegraphing the holiday's dark humor with surprising wit. Printed in the golden age of the American novelty postcard, this card was mailed in November 1909 from a young writer who signs off chatty news about her teacher, a missed Sunday visit, and a borrowed horse — the kind of small-town domestic detail that makes ephemera sing. The 1-cent Benjamin Franklin green stamp anchors it squarely in the Edwardian era. The embossed relief gives the turkey heads an almost three-dimensional presence rarely seen in holiday cards of this period.
