Postcard c1960s Chrome Hand-Painting Pottery Tlaquepaque Jalisco Mexico Artisans

Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico1965ChromeExcellent

Bathed in the saturated palette of a mid-century chrome postcard, two craftsmen crouch amid a riot of hand-painted ceramics in a Tlaquepaque courtyard — giant green vases, bold red-and-black platters, and a cobalt-blue urn crowd the foreground while Talavera-tiled walls and baroque stone sculptures fill the background in a composition almost too abundant to absorb. Tlaquepaque, Jalisco became Mexico's most celebrated craft export hub through the mid-20th century, and this card captures a living workshop scene that tourists would have purchased at the very shops where such pottery was made. Published by Impresos Permacolor under the "Vistacolor" imprint and lithographed in Mexico, the card is unused and retains brilliant color fidelity typical of the era's best chrome printing.
