Postcard 1961 Jack Tar Hotel Prime Rib Beef Dinner Chrome Used Galveston TX

Galveston, Texas, USA1961ChromeGood

A mouth-watering mid-century chrome card from the Jack Tar Hotel chain presents a lavishly set dinner table starring their signature Roast Prime Rib of Beef — thick-cut and golden-crusted, flanked by twice-baked potatoes, crusty rolls, wooden salad bowls, silver gravy boats, and flickering candlelight on a crisp white tablecloth edged in red — the very image of postwar American fine dining ambition. The Jack Tar Hotels were a prominent upscale chain with properties spanning San Francisco, Galveston, Asheville, Charleston, the Bahamas, and beyond, marketing themselves with the slogan "Prepare to be Pampered." This card was mailed from Holbrook, Texas (postmarked May 2, 1961) using a U.S. 3¢ Liberty stamp, addressed to a Mrs. G. W. at 30 So. Blvd., Nyack, New York. The writer — apparently a woman named Clara or similar — fills the card with cramped, enthusiastic handwriting describing a trip through multiple Jack Tar properties, mentioning places, food, and family.
