Postcard 1910 France Nevers Rue de la Cathédrale Used Sent to Vienna

Nevers, France1910Pre-linenGood

Two small figures — perhaps a mother and child — pause in the cobbled shadow of a massive medieval turret on the Rue de la Cathédrale in Nevers, France, as the soaring Gothic façade of the Cathédrale Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte rises at the street's end in this evocative Edwardian street scene. Sent as a warm "Bon souvenir" from someone identified only by initials to a recipient named Annalie in Vienna's 14th district, this card traveled from the heart of Burgundy to the Austro-Hungarian capital, carrying with it the everyday charm of provincial French life. The "LL" publisher monogram identifies the prolific Lévy & Sons house, whose numbered series documented French towns with exceptional quality.
