Postcard c1945 Monterey Street San Luis Obispo CA Clear View Unused

San Luis Obispo, California, USA1945LinenExcellent

Monterey Street in downtown San Luis Obispo stretches into the distance under a mid-century California sky, its curbs lined with late-1930s and early-1940s automobiles — a Ford flathead here, a Chevy fastback there — while pennant banners and a bold rodeo-style bucking bronco banner hang high above the roadway, lending the scene a festive Western character; on the right, a Florsheim Shoes sign anchors the commercial strip, and A.S. Bauer Co. holds the left corner, together painting a vivid portrait of small-city California commerce in the WWII-to-early-postwar years. Published by Wayne Paper Box & Printing Corp. of Fort Wayne, Indiana, under their "Clear View" brand and numbered H-910, this real black-and-white photographic-style card was never posted and retains the crisp, unhandled quality preferred by topographic collectors. San Luis Obispo's mid-century streetscape has changed dramatically since, making cards like this valuable to local historians and California nostalgia collectors alike.
