Postcard 1912 Young Fisherman Art Repro Venice Painting Becket OH RPPC

Venice, Italy / Becket, Ohio, USA1912Pre-linenFair-Good

A drowsy Venetian afternoon captured in warm ochres and slate blues — a young boy in a battered brown hat and scarlet neckerchief lies sprawled across the bow of a wooden fishing boat, threading his line with quiet concentration while a wicker creel and bundled oars rest behind him and a red-sailed felucca drifts on the hazy lagoon beyond. This color-printed art reproduction postcard reproduces a painting attributed to Antonio Paoletti (1834–1912) of Venice, whose genre scenes of Venetian working-class life were widely collected and frequently reproduced on European and American postcards in the early 1900s; the lower-left corner of the image carries the artist's printed credit and "Venezia." The card was mailed from Becket, Ohio on April 20, 1912 — a penny-postcard era postmark — and addressed to a Miss Catherine at 3749 E. 71st Street, Cleveland, Ohio; the handwritten message, penned upside-down in a looping Victorian hand, opens "Dear Baby C" and is signed with an affectionate family nickname, closing with "Tell Mamma." The 1-cent Washington stamp (Scott #405 or similar) ties the card firmly to the 1912 flat-plate printing era.
