Antique & Vintage Postcards

A mischievous young boy in a flat cap and bow tie looks up with wide, knowing eyes as a courting couple — the woman in lavender skirts, the man in a brown suit — hide their embrace behind a large green parasol amid a bower of red climbing roses, the scene titled with a wink: "Play Ball!" This charming Edwardian social-comedy postcard captures the era's gentle humor about romance and childhood innocence, rendered in the warm impressionistic style of American illustrator Philip Boileau (whose signature appears in red at lower right). Published by the Dodson Company as part of their numbered "Ball Series No. 222," the card is unused and in excellent condition, colors vibrant, with only the faintest handling at the corners. The reverse bears the Dodson Co. copyright mark and the clean divided-back format indicating a date circa 1905–1910. A delightful example of the Edwardian postcard art golden age, combining romance, humor, and fine illustration in a single small canvas.
