Postcard 1926 Fountain Centennial Park Holland Michigan Used Linen Esther

Holland, Michigan, USA1926Pre-linenFair-Good

From the summer of 1926, a colorful linen-style postcard shows the famous floral fountain at Centennial Park in Holland, Michigan — an elaborate living-plant centerpiece in full spray, surrounded by neatly dressed visitors in period attire who lean over the decorative white iron fence to admire the blooms, while above in the sky the ghostly parallel lines of a hand-written message on the reverse bleed faintly through. Esther sent this cheerful note on July 21–22, 1926, to Mr. and Mrs. William Stringer on 14th Street in Port Huron, Michigan, writing in flowing cursive: "Hello — Just a line to let you know that we are safe in old Holland again. We had a fine day. We drive home, will be glad to have you come when one of you can — with love, Esther." The postmark from Holland, Mich. dated JUL 22, 6:30 AM, 1926 is crisp, and the red 2-cent Washington stamp remains affixed, completing this intimate snapshot of Midwestern summer travel.
