Postcard 1909 Dudley St Terminal Station Roxbury MA Boston Elevated Linen

Roxbury (Boston), Massachusetts, USA1909Pre-linenFair-Good

The sweeping elevated platforms of Dudley Street Terminal in Roxbury, Massachusetts spread across the frame in this early 1909 German-printed color card — a cream-and-orange streetcar hugging the curve of the upper platform while layers of steel girders, stairways, and green canopy roofs recede into a cityscape of church spires and commercial blocks beyond. Dudley Street was the nerve center of Boston's surface and elevated transit network, a bustling transfer hub that served tens of thousands of daily riders at the peak of the streetcar age. The card was posted from the very station it depicts — cancelled "Roxbury Station" on January 4, 1909 — and mailed to a woman named J.B. (recipient's first name not fully legible) at 302 95th Street, 21 Aver Court, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
