Postcard 1960s School of Ozarks Lyons Memorial Library Point Lookout MO Chrome

Point Lookout, Missouri, USA1965ChromeExcellent

The modernist latticed facade of the Lyons Memorial Library at the School of the Ozarks gleams in afternoon sun in this chrome-era color card from Point Lookout, Missouri — decorative concrete screen-block panels flanking floor-to-ceiling windows in a design that speaks to the optimistic institutional architecture of postwar America, neatly trimmed hedges lining the entrance walk. The School of the Ozarks, founded in 1906 as a work-college for Ozark-region students of limited means, built this library to house 55,000 volumes, over 400 periodicals, microfilm, and filmstrips — a proud symbol of the institution's academic ambitions. The school is today known as College of the Ozarks, still operating on the same Point Lookout campus overlooking Lake Taneycomo near Branson. This card was never mailed and remains in excellent unused condition.
