Antique & Vintage Postcards

A gleaming yellow electric streetcar rumbles down Fourth Street in Cincinnati, Ohio, flanked by Gilded Age skyscrapers and the soaring Gothic spire of a downtown church, in this richly hand-colored Phostint view captured around 1907–1908 — a rare street-level portrait of a booming Midwestern city at the height of the trolley age. The Kohler store sign, a Splitzer tailor's advertisement, and horse-drawn wagons sharing the rails with the electric car layer the scene with period commercial detail. On the reverse, a brief, partially legible note (postmarked Cincinnati, Oct 13, 1908) was sent to Mrs. B. Carroll at 7 Windsor Pl. N.E., Cleveland, Ohio, expressing warm wishes and urging her to "keep your originality." The 1¢ Franklin green stamp is neatly canceled.
