Postcard Dalton MA Community House Pre-Linen Albertype Silvernail Druggist

Dalton, Massachusetts, USA1910Pre-linenGood

Bare late-autumn trees frame a handsome brick Colonial Revival community center in this quietly dignified pre-linen view of Dalton, Massachusetts — columned portico, Palladian fanlight windows, and twin end chimneys projecting civic ambition in a mill town that could afford it. The Dalton Community House was gifted to the town by Zenas Crane of the Crane & Co. paper dynasty, one of several philanthropic gestures that shaped Dalton's built environment in the early twentieth century; its Georgian-inflected design was a deliberate nod to New England colonial heritage. The publisher here is C. R. Silvernail, Druggist, Dalton — the town pharmacist doubling as postcard distributor, a common arrangement in small communities where the drugstore served as informal general store and gift shop. Printed by the Albertype Company of Brooklyn under their "Post Cards of Quality" imprint, the card retains a divided back with both message and address fields labeled, placing it after 1907. Unused and clean.
