Postcard Residence W.M. Crane Jr Dalton MA Handcolored Albertype c1915

Dalton, Massachusetts, USA1915Pre-linenGood

Bathed in the soft pastels of a hand-colorist's brush, the grand Colonial Revival mansion of W. M. Crane Jr. sits serenely amid manicured grounds in Dalton, Massachusetts — a testament to the extraordinary wealth that paper-making could generate in early-twentieth-century New England. The brick manor, with its stately columned portico, dormer windows, sun-room arches, and striped awnings, speaks to a family that was not merely prosperous but genuinely powerful: the Crane family controlled the paper used in every U.S. banknote. This handcolored Albertype card, published by local Dalton vendor Geo. M. Daly, is a rare domestic view of the Crane family estate, pairing beautifully with the companion "Government Mill" card from the same publisher.
