Postcard 1940s Uhrturm Clock Tower Graz Austria Illustrated Art Card

Graz, Austria1945LinenExcellent

Rising dramatically against a cloud-brushed sky, the medieval Uhrturm — Graz's beloved clock tower — dominates this charming illustrated art card with bold graphic lines and warm ochre and terracotta tones that feel almost hand-painted. The Uhrturm has stood sentinel atop the Schlossberg since at least 1129, constructed as a fortress to defend against Turkish incursion; the distinctive clock face visible on the tower's face was added only in 1712, making it an architectural latecomer to one of Austria's most iconic silhouettes. Published by Verlag Riehl of Austria in their art-illustration series, the card is unsigned on the front but bears a stylized artist mark in the lower right of the image area. Never mailed, this unused example retains crisp, vivid color and clean edges — a fine specimen of mid-century Austrian graphic art in postcard form.
