Antique & Vintage Postcards

Ivy clings to every surface of the magnificent Renaissance courtyard of the Musée Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp — one of the most photographed interiors in Belgium — in this pristine, undivided-back carte postale from around 1898–1902, published by G. Hermans of Anvers (Antwerp) before the divided-back era transformed postcard design. The Plantin-Moretus Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site today, was the home and workshop of the great 16th-century printer Christophe Plantin, and its ivy-draped courtyard with formal garden parterre was already a beloved tourist attraction by the turn of the century. The card is entirely unused — blank address side, no stamp, no message — in excellent condition for its age, the photographic halftone crisp and well-contrasted.
