Postcard 1968 Aztec Dance Pyramid Mexico Chrome Grupo Folklorico Bonampak

Mexico City, Mexico1968ChromeGood

Five brilliantly costumed dancers burst from the stone steps of a Mexican pyramid, their towering feathered headdresses — some nearly two feet tall — blazing in red, turquoise, gold, and black against a cobalt sky. This vivid chrome-era card captures the Grupo Folklórico Bonampak de Marta Pérez Martínez performing a recreation of Aztec ceremonial dances, with richly patterned textile runners draped across the ancient stone base. Sent from Mexico City in July 1968 — just weeks before the Summer Olympics opened there — Crystal wrote home to her mother with reassuring brevity: "Just a line to say we are in Mexico and are fine. Please hold checks until we get to Rochester in August." The casual mention of the '68 Olympics postmark frame makes this card a quiet document of one of history's most politically charged sporting events.
