Postcard c1900 Paris Le Palais de Justice France UDB Pre-Linen Unused A.Taride

Paris, France1902Pre-linenExcellent

A horse-drawn cart clops past the ornate iron gates of the Palais de Justice on the Île de la Cité, while the soaring Gothic spire of Sainte-Chapelle — still wrapped in scaffolding from 19th-century restoration work — pierces the pale Paris sky in this hauntingly beautiful undivided-back card from around the turn of the twentieth century. The crisp collotype or early halftone print, published by the respected Parisian cartographer and postcard house A. Taride, captures the monumental domed courthouse facade alongside the medieval chapel in extraordinary architectural detail — pedestrians in period dress and a lone child crossing the square below add human scale to the grandeur. The reverse, printed in French only with the classic "Ce côté est exclusivement réservé à l'adresse" UDB convention, was never written upon, leaving this card in pristine unposted condition. A penciled "0.5" in the lower margin suggests a dealer's price notation from a prior collection — a charming artifact of a century of philatelic hands.
