Postcard c1902 Bruges Belgium Hotel de Ville Gothic UDB Unused Carte Postale

Bruges, Belgium1902Pre-linenExcellent

Every inch of Bruges' magnificent Gothic Stadhuis — its facade bristling with pinnacles, niches of carved saints, and soaring tracery windows — fills this early-century postcard in monochrome splendor, with two figures strolling beneath its shadow and a single dark-coated pedestrian crossing the empty square before it. Built between 1376 and 1420, the Hôtel de Ville (City Hall) of Bruges is one of the oldest and most ornate Gothic civic buildings in the Low Countries, and this undivided-back card captures its lace-like stonework with remarkable clarity for the era. The publisher's initials "VED" appear discreetly in the lower-left corner of the image. The reverse carries only the bilingual "CARTE POSTALE / POSTKAART" imprint — classic Belgian UDB format — with no address, no message, and no stamp, suggesting this card was purchased as a souvenir and carefully preserved. The card's condition is exceptional for its age, with bright whites and deep blacks in the image.
