Postcard 1902 Stirling Castle Gateway Scotland Douglas Clan Crest UDB

Stirling, Scotland, United Kingdom1903Pre-linenExcellent

The formidable gatehouse of Stirling Castle looms in monochrome grandeur, its arched entry flanked by drum towers — one solitary figure stands in the passage to give scale to Scotland's most storied royal stronghold. Overlaid in vivid chromolithographic colour on the lower left is the heraldic achievement of Clan Douglas: a crowned red heart on azure, three white stars above, the motto Loor Sioner ("Stronger" in Scots/Gaelic) on a gold scroll. The Douglas connection to Stirling Castle runs deep — the "Black Dinner" of 1440, the assassination of the 8th Earl, and centuries of rivalry with the Scottish Crown all echo from these walls. Published in the early "Reliable Series" with a divided-correspondence-area back but address-only instruction suggesting a transitional c.1902–1904 date. Unposted and clean.
