Postcard 1902 Gruss aus Floridsdorf Austria Neues Rathaus Embossed UDB

Floridsdorf (now Vienna 21st district), Austria1902Pre-linenGood

A gleaming Baroque-Revival town hall rises from cobblestoned streets in this elegantly embossed "Gruss aus" greetings card from Floridsdorf — now Vienna's 21st district but at the time of this card's printing still an independent city on the Danube's eastern bank, incorporated into Vienna only in 1904. The card features a finely rendered engraving of the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall) framed within a hammered-silver-effect passe-partout border accented with gilded acanthus leaves, a hallmark of the finest turn-of-the-century Austro-Hungarian printing. A handwritten note in period German script reads "Von deiner Freundin Christina" ("From your friend Christina") on the image side — the undivided back carries only the address of Fred in Liberty, Illinois, bearing a US 1-cent Franklin stamp, suggesting Christina had emigrated to the US and sent this card of her Austrian homeland to a friend.
