Postcard Holiday Inn East Indianapolis Indiana Chrome 1964 Posted Jessie Tillie

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA1964ChromeGood

Dated April 4, 1964 — the same spring the Beatles ruled the airwaves — two travelers named Jessie and Tillie dashed off a quick note from Room 111 of the gleaming new Holiday Inn East of Indianapolis: "Here we are in R. #111." The aerial-view Chrome card shows the inn's striking modernist complex at State Roads 36 and 67, anchored by a cylindrical blue-glass rotunda housing the cocktail lounge, with a kidney-shaped pool glittering beside the L-shaped room block and acres of early-1960s Detroit iron filling the parking lot. The C.M. Russell commemorative stamp on the reverse adds a small but pleasing philatelic note to this snapshot of postwar American road-trip culture.
