Antique & Vintage Postcards

Flat stepping stones catch the white rush of a woodland stream at Jesmond Dene, the beloved riverside park gifted to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne by Lord William Armstrong in 1883 — and in this exquisite early Edwardian postcard, the dappled light through bare winter branches and the mossy wooden bridge beyond create a scene of almost Pre-Raphaelite tranquility. Credited to photographer E.T.W.D. (a well-known Edwardian postcard photographer active in northeast England, likely E.T.W. Dennis of Scarborough), the image is printed with superb tonal range and a subtle blue-green tint in the sky that distinguishes quality production of the period. The back carries the transitional "This Space, as well as the Back, may now be used for Communication — Post Office Regulation" wording, dating it to the 1902–1910 window. Never mailed and never written upon, this pristine card is a fine example of Edwardian topographic postcard art at its best.
