The Mint House is one of the oldest surviving domestic buildings in England, with origins in the 14th century, and takes its name from its historical association with the local coin mint; it is situated near the ruins of Pevensey Castle, where William the Conqueror landed in 1066. The undivided-back format with "½d. stamp inland / 1d. stamp foreign" box places this card in the 1902–1906 transitional British era.
