Postcard 1906 North Station Boston MA Souvenir Post Card Co Street Scene

Boston, Massachusetts, USA1906Pre-linenGood

Horse-drawn wagons jostle with pedestrians in the busy street outside Boston's original North Station — a bustling granite-and-brick Romanesque terminal that served the Boston & Maine Railroad before its 1928 demolition — captured here in an atmospheric teal-tinted photographic view published by the Souvenir Post Card Co. of New York around 1906. The massive arched entry colonnade and the square clock tower anchor the composition, while the chaotic foreground of delivery drays, top-hatted drivers, and crowds of commuters conveys the frenetic energy of an Edwardian railroad hub. The sender wrote directly on the face of the card — "This is where I used to work / all the holidays" — a wistful personal note that transforms this architectural document into a quiet piece of working-class autobiography.
