Postcard 1907-1915 Worcester Salt Co Plant Silver Springs NY Wilson Wasson

Silver Springs, New York, United States1910Pre-linenGood

Rising from the mirror-still waters of Silver Lake in Wyoming County, New York, the massive industrial complex of the Worcester Salt Company dominates this rare early color-lithograph postcard — four tall brick smokestacks reflected perfectly in the foreground water, the sprawling multi-building plant with its timber wharves and derrick cranes telling the story of one of upstate New York's most important 19th- and early 20th-century industries. Silver Springs sat atop vast Silurian salt deposits, and the Worcester Salt Company was among the major processors that turned this geological bounty into a national commodity. Published by A. L. Remington of Silver Springs, NY, and printed in Germany by Wilson & Wasson, this unused card (numbered 1135) is a genuine industrial history document — a snapshot of small-town economic identity in the age of heavy manufacturing, before this particular landscape was transformed forever.
