Antique & Vintage Postcards

Sent from Rome, New York to young Iva at 136 George Street in Green Island, this whimsical early souvenir card features a die-cut red paper heart — boldly proclaiming "Heart of Rome, N.Y." — attached to the front of a fold-out accordion booklet revealing the city's proud landmarks: the Mohawk River and Power House, City Hall, the Post Office, Oddfellows Temple, North George Street, Rome Country Club, and the Teugega Country Club, all in crisp black-and-white miniature. Postmarked September 27, 1908, with a 2-cent Washington stamp affixed, this charming novelty was mailed by someone signing only their first initial — a small mystery that only adds to its appeal. Rome, New York, strategically situated on the Erie Canal corridor, was at this moment a thriving industrial and social hub, and the Teugega Country Club (still active today) was already a gathering place for the city's elite.
