Postcard Osmington Mills Dorset England c1906 Hartmann Color Unused

Osmington Mills, Dorset, England1906Pre-linenExcellent

Thatched rooftops, grazing cattle, and the sweeping chalk downland of the Dorset coast converge in this hand-tinted Hartmann card of Osmington Mills — a tiny fishing hamlet tucked into the cliffs near Weymouth that artists including John Constable had painted a century earlier and that remained beautifully unspoiled well into the Edwardian era. The warm colorization picks out the red chimney pots and terracotta roof tiles against rolling green hills, while the distinctive Ringstead Bay headland rises hazily in the background. Published by the German firm Hartmann (whose trademark jester logo "Harlekin" appears on the reverse in teal ink), this card dates to the peak years of the British picture-postcard craze, roughly 1902–1910, and was never used — leaving it pristine for collectors who prize both the English Riviera coastal subject and the quality of continental color printing.
