Postcard 1905 Paris Arc du Carrousel Louvre CPA France Carte Postale

Paris, France1906Pre-linenFair-Good

Edwardian Paris in its full monumental swagger — the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel stands broad-shouldered and triumphant in this crisp early-twentieth-century photographic carte postale, Napoleon's pink marble victory arch framing a perfect view through to the Louvre pavilion beyond, while fashionably dressed Parisians and a lone cyclist animate the Place du Carrousel in a fleeting moment of la Belle Époque street life. The card's back carries the intriguing warning "Tous les pays étrangers n'acceptent pas la correspondance au recto (Se renseigner à la poste)" — a notice required in France from roughly 1904–1910 as the divided-back standard rolled out internationally — helping date this photographic halftone card precisely. A handsome, clean example of early Parisian topographical publishing aimed at the booming tourist and souvenir trade of the pre-war era.
