Postcard Waconah Falls Dalton Massachusetts Undivided Back c.1901-1907 UDB

Dalton, Massachusetts, USA1905Pre-linenExcellent

Tumbling in vivid hand-tinted blues and greens over ancient Berkshire granite, Waconah Falls in Dalton, Massachusetts glows with the lush color printing that made early 1900s souvenir cards irresistible to tourists. The falls cascade dramatically down a broad rock face hemmed by dense New England woodland, the water rendered in an almost luminescent turquoise — characteristic of the chromolithograph coloring process used by German printers at Hugh C. Leighton Co. This is a classic undivided-back (UDB) era card (pre-1907), unused, with the reverse reserving the entire face for the address per postal regulations of the time. Printed in Frankfurt am Main, Germany for the Portland, Maine publisher, it represents the golden age of American scenic cards produced abroad before World War I disrupted transatlantic trade. Waconah Falls State Park remains a beloved Berkshires destination today, making this an appealing piece for Massachusetts and New England topical collectors.
