Postcard George Street New Brunswick NJ c1950 Linen Wilbur Roger Store

New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA1950LinenExcellent

Flags snap from every lamppost and shopfront along George Street in this vivid linen-era postcard of downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey — a Main Street moment frozen around 1948–1952, when the city hummed with postwar optimism and shoppers like a housewife named Dorothy or a veteran named Frank strolled past the bold Art Moderne façade of Wilbur Roger's department store on the right. The linen texture pops the saturated palette: salmon-pink brickwork, cobalt sky streaked with cotton clouds, and a lone red automobile threading the brick-paved roadway toward a church steeple in the middle distance. The "National" sign at the far right edge anchors the streetscape commercially, while multiple American flags reinforce the civic pride common in postwar linen production. Published by Coronet Greeting Card Co. of Elizabeth, N.J. — a New Jersey-focused regional publisher — this card is a strong example of the hyper-local commercial linen genre. The back is completely unused, blank, and crisp.
