Postcard Durdle Door Lulworth Cove Dorset England c1965 Chrome Cotman

Lulworth Cove, Dorset, England, United Kingdom1965ChromeExcellent

The great limestone arch of Durdle Door frames a sweep of jade-green Channel water in this luminous chrome-era postcard — a geological wonder on Dorset's Jurassic Coast that drew walkers named Margaret and Colin down the steep chalk path to a crescent beach below, its pale sand curving away beneath cliffs mantled in summer grass. The photograph captures the scene from the clifftop with masterful depth: the green headland fills the left foreground, the arch punches through sea-washed rock at the right, and a car park glimpsed at the clifftop edge quietly dates the image to the mid-1960s motoring-holiday era. Published in the Cotman-Color series by Jarrold & Sons Ltd of Norwich — one of Britain's most respected postcard and travel-guide publishers, whose meticulous colour reproduction was a hallmark of quality — this unused card retains bright, unfaded tones. The reverse carries the catalogue reference KLUL 114, placing it firmly in Jarrold's Lulworth sub-series.
