Postcard 1904 Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese London Interior Real Photo Pub Unused

London, England, UK1902Pre-linenExcellent

Dark wainscoting, high-backed settle benches, white linen tablecloths, and the soft glimmer of a gas-jet chandelier conjure the centuries-old atmosphere of Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street, London — the pub rebuilt in 1667 after the Great Fire, haunt of Samuel Johnson, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and a long roll-call of literary giants — captured here in a rare real-photograph interior view labeled "View of Cosy Corners, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese." The undivided-back format with British postal regulation wording ("The opposite space may be used for Communication — Post Office Regulation") and the inland ½d / foreign 1d rate box places this firmly in the pre-1902 to c.1904 Edwardian era. The card is unused and unaddressed, a pristine survivor of one of London's most storied drinking establishments.
