Postcard 1907 Lago di Como Chiesa di Sala Isola Comacina Italy RPPCera

Lago di Como (Lake Como), Lombardy, Italy1907Pre-linenGood

Mist-blue mountains crown a serene arm of Lake Como in this exquisite pre-linen photographic card, the bell tower of the Chiesa di Sala rising elegantly at right while Isola Comacina — the lake's only island — floats like a dark jewel mid-frame. Three figures pause on the terraced path below, their Edwardian silhouettes lending human scale to one of Italy's most celebrated landscapes. Postmarked 29 August 1907 from Colico at the northern tip of the lake, the card was written in German by someone signing as "May," who tells her "dear Tilly" of a pleasant boat journey across the Comer See. The card traveled to Dresden, Saxony, addressed to Fräulein Tilly, making it a lovely example of early-twentieth-century European grand-tour correspondence. Published by the prestigious firm Brunner & C. of Como and Zürich using their heliographic (collotype) process, the image quality remains crisp and detailed.
