Antique & Vintage Postcards

From a terraced vineyard high above the southern shore, Lake Lugano stretches away in luminous silver-blue toward snow-dusted Alpine peaks in this stunning panoramic view of the Paradiso district — the terraced hillside village clinging to the water's edge, Ticino's characteristic red-roofed villas dotting the slopes, all rendered in the brilliant color photolithography that made Photoglob Co. of Zürich the gold standard of Edwardian travel imagery. Card number 18 in the same traveler's sequential series, this piece was posted August 28, 1907 from Lugano by Max, who writes enthusiastically to his friend Tilly in Dresden about the boat excursion across Lago Maggiore and Lake Lugano, promising more adventures the next day over the Lukmanierjoch pass.
